Lisa spent much of her career as a Clinical Coordinator, managing a hospital-based sleep laboratory. In that role, she obtained American Academy of Sleep Medicine Accreditation (AASM) for the facility, led the establishment of a satellite Pediatric Sleep Disorders Center, and managed the clinical operations of both the adult and pediatric testing facilities.

In 2012, after providing over 10 years of service to the Respiratory Care Program at Stony Brook as an Adjunct faculty member and Clinical Instructor, Lisa joined the program as a full time Clinical Assistant Professor. In 2019, she was promoted to Clinical Associate Professor.  Her current responsibilities include teaching and clinical oversight of students in the Respiratory Care and Polysomnographic Specialty Option Programs.

Lisa’s professional areas of interest include patient and public education related to sleep wellness.  She has been actively involved in various community-based research projects focused on the prevention of drowsy driving and raising awareness about the importance of sleep to overall health.  Over the past several years, she has secured many rounds of funding from the Governors Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) and the National Road Safety Foundation to implement various initiatives and research projects, including the launch of the website stopdrowsydriving.org, which houses all of her team’s educational deliverables.

Lisa is the author of the third edition textbook Spriggs’s Essentials of Polysomnography: A Training Guide and Reference for Sleep Technicians (2019), and numerous webinars and e-learning resources offered by the AAST and AASM for clinicians.  She has been an item writer for the National Board for Respiratory Care sleep specialty exam and has co-authored several peer-reviewed journal articles for the Journal of Respiratory Care and the journal of Health Promotion Practice.  Her recent research includes the publication “The Future of Respiratory Care: Results of a NY State Survey of Respiratory Therapists,” which reports on the perceptions of current RT’s on their future role and scope of practice.

Lisa has served as Long Island Regional Director, the Chair of the Education and Research Committee, and as Secretary of the Ad Hoc Committee for the Academic Advancement of the Respiratory Care Profession in NY State for the New York State Society for Respiratory Care (NYSSRC) for the past four years.  Lisa also serves as a Director at Large for the American Association of Sleep Technologists (AAST) and as a Board Liaison for the AAST Standards and Guidelines Committee.  She has received numerous awards and honors including the AAST Literacy Award in November 2023, being inducted as a Fellow of the American Association for Respiratory Care in 2022, the Award for Outstanding Performance in the 11th Annual Open Forum of the Louisiana Society for Respiratory Care in 2022, the AAST Professional Development Award in 2021, the AAST Member of the Month in June 2016, and the Stony Brook University School of Health Technology and Management’s Outstanding Alumni Award in 2009.
