In 1992, New York recognized respiratory therapy as a licensed profession. To keep up with advancements in medical care, legislation is being pursued to require respiratory therapists to hold a bachelor’s degree, ensuring they are well-prepared to manage complex cardiac and pulmonary disorders and improve patient outcomes.
May update from the Ad Hoc Team is advancing the academic requirements for RTs. This supports their significant role in managing complex cardiopulmonary disorders and aligns with current medical advancements.
The NYSSRC Ad Hoc Committee persists in advancing respiratory care in NY, retaining legislative sponsors and seeking meetings with key educational offices for support.
